Project Sticker Shock is a public awareness campaign that aims to discourage adults who may purchase alcohol legally and provide it to minors. Stickers are placed on multi- packs of beer, alco-pops, and other alcohol products that appeal to underage drinkers.
The real impact of the Sticker Shock project is that once the alcohol is stickered, of age people purchasing alcohol will think twice about providing alcohol to minors. This project also raises awareness of constructing laws on a larger scale, particularly through media coverage of your activities. The impact of the stickers is increased by media coverage of the event and by the signs that are displayed by participating retailers.
Instead of just raising awareness of selling alcohol to underage persons, it encourages youth to take the lead whenever possible.
Raises public awareness about underage drinking and youth access to alcohol.
Strengthens the deterrent effect of law against providing alcohol to minors.
Builds collaboration between youth, retailers, concerned parents, community members, law enforcement, and prevention professionals.
Generates positive media coverage, including newspaper articles/editorials, and new stories.
